    Basic 35mm Techniques      (Limited to 12 participants - Min. 6)   

Fee: $125.00  

Two-day weekend workshop   9:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m. with a lunch break

This workshop is designed for those who have recently purchased a 35mm camera or who are looking to refresh their techniques.
Learn about exposure, shutter speeds and f/ stops.  Learn about composition and the use of filters, flash and various film types.  Discussions will cover tips on travel photography, portraiture, close-ups and how to overcome full automation in today’s cameras.  Any 35mm Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera that can be adjusted manually as well as used in automatic exposure mode is welcome in class.   (No point and shoot cameras permitted.)


Fine Art B&W Photography - for advanced students    (Limited to 3 participants)       

Fee: $250.00

Two-day weekend workshop  9:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m. + Tuesday evening   7:00 –  9:00 p.m.

This workshop will help give you the skills necessary to expose and develop film in a manner best suited for available light photography.
Time will be spent learning details of how to optimize shooting techniques and how to how pre-visualize your subject. We will take an afternoon field trip to the town of Cave Creek which will allow you to put these concepts into practice.  Sunday will be spent in the darkroom developing film and working on basic printing techniques.  A print critique will be held on Tuesday evening.  (The class fee does not include photographic materials.)

 


Boudoir & Glamour Lighting   (Limited to 8 participants - min. 4)        Fee: $150.00

One-day workshop 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This one-day workshop will teach you a variety of lighting styles.  Learn soft and hard glamour lighting techniques.  We will explore soft focus techniques to achieve a dramatic glamorous image. Combine posing and lighting techniques to accent your subject’s best assets.

All model’s fees are included. *(No model releases will be given in this workshop.)  


Sonoran Desert / Macro Close-up Workshop      (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)      

  Fee: $95.00    

One-day workshop    9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This workshop will cover close-up techniques for shooting cactus plants, saguaros and wild flowers. All camera formats are welcome.
Learn the principles of composition, exposure metering, the use of a one-degree spot meter, fill-flash and reflector techniques and more.  


Photograph Birds of Prey  (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)     

Fee: $ 85.00     

Morning workshop 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  

This workshop will be held at the “Wild-at Heart” Nature Habitat and will give the photographer an opportunity to get those “up-close” portraits of falcons, owls and other birds of prey. These “tethered birds” will be posing for you. Tele-zoom lenses are recommended.  (Fill-flash may be an option)

A donation fee will be paid to “Wild at Heart” for their permission to hold this workshop. The workshop will be followed by an optional Q&A session during lunch.  


Desert Light in the Grand Canyon   (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)     

Fee: $250.00        

 Friday evening 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.   Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The American West offers magnificent and exciting vistas.  Photograph unspoiled views of some of these.  The Grand Canyon workshop is a wonderful way to learn landscape photography. All camera formats and digital cameras are welcome. Learn the principles of composition and metering techniques used by landscape photographers.  The Workshop fee does not include meals, lodging or transportation. Students are encouraged to bring some of their own prints for an evening critique.  


Hand-Coloring B&W Prints with Marshall Oils  (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)      

Fee: $95.00    

One-day workshop  10:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.  

This workshop will provide instruction on hand tinting/coloring B&W prints with Marshall ’s transparent oil paints.  Learn the techniques of applying color to black and white photographic prints.  Participants are encouraged to bring two or three of their own pictures printed on matte or semi-matte fiber-based or RC paper.  If needed, prints can be provided.  No photographic knowledge or darkroom experience is needed for this class.
 


Basic Portrait Lighting  (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)

How often have you wished you could take portraits like the pro’s do? Gain an understanding of professional portrait lighting, and make-up application and posing techniques. Learn the art of seeing and painting with light using both hot lights and studio electronic flash.  Learn when to diffuse and how to bounce light with reflectors, umbrellas, and soft boxes.  We will demonstrate several lighting styles including Rembrandt, butterfly, single lighting, side lighting and more.

 


Basic “Product” Lighting  (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)

This workshop will provide instruction on photographing jewelry, glassware, food and fashion. Learn the techniques used in catalogs, magazines and advertisements for commercial photography and how to create shadowless lighting for your product photos.  

 


Classical/Abstract Nude Figure in Studio  (Limited to 6 participants - Min. 4)    

Fee: $175.00    

One-day workshop  9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m  

This workshop concentrates on visual concepts in figure photography.  Through creative composition we will emphasize the interplay between design, form, and shape as defined by natural and studio light.  The instructor will teach participants how to direct and pose the model.

 


How to Shoot a Model’s Portfolio  (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)      

Fee: $150.00       

One-day workshop   9:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.  

  There is more to successfully shooting and producing a model’s portfolio than taking good photographs of people in this hands-on workshop.  Learn the gamut of skills required to produce a professional portfolio.  Gain information about composite cards, pricing your work and how to promote yourself as a model photographer.  Your instructor is a co-author of the book, “Photographer’s Guide to Shooting a Model & Actors Portfolios” available from book stores, on-line sites, and in many camera stores.  


Fashion Fetishes (Leather & Lace)    (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)     

Fee: $150.00     

One-day workshop  9:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.  


Take a walk on the wild side.  Photograph models dressed in leather & lace, handcuffs and neoprene.  Explore visual themes in this unique workshop.
No pornography here!  Models poses are suggestive without being explicit.  Learn posing, lighting, metering, and the creative use of props.
 

 


Centerfold Photography “Playboy Style”  (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)     

Fee: $225.00      

One-day workshop    9:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.  

This studio workshop will be conducted in the lighting style of the well-known magazine Playboy.  The subtleties of lighting and posing the model(s) will be demonstrated.  Techniques in lighting, metering, composition and soft focus filtering will also be taught.  Studio lighting and light modifiers are provided and the building of a simple set design will be shown.
 

 


Wedding Photography  (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 5)    

  Fee: $395.00     

Two-day weekend workshop    9:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.

Get the informational tools needed to take better wedding pictures.  Learn how to book and price the event, and deliver a finished wedding album.  Part of a session will be held at a local church with a bride and groom where you will be able to learn how to do traditional formal portraits, group shots and try some lighting techniques.  Also learn which films, cameras and flash are best to use.  Information on where to purchase, photo backgrounds and supplies will be discussed.  Please – no point-and-shoot or video cameras.  

 


 Fashion on Location in Historic Cave Creek , AZ      (Limited to 8 participants - Min. 4)    

Fee: $150.00    

One-day workshop     9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  

This workshop will cover techniques used to create fashion photography similar what is seen in magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Glamour, etc.
Cave Creek, a quaint area of North Phoenix is populated with a number of “old west” specialty shops and local café’s that make a wonderful shooting background.  Learn about the use of reflectors, synchro-sunlight fill flash, posing and many other techniques to rev up your photographic style.


Architecture in Downtown Tempe , AZ. (Limited to 10 participants - Min. 4)     

Fee: $85.00      

One-day workshop (ASU campus)    10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

This workshop will increase your ability to document an environment and creatively capture relevant details of the architecture.  Learn composition and metering techniques.  Architectural shapes and patterns of the Fine Arts Music Building, art museum and library buildings provide excellent subject matter for both color and black and white images.  All camera formats are welcome, but you must bring a tripod.

Photograph a number of models posing in casual & western wear, sportswear, fashion gowns and swimsuits.  Props will be provided.
Bring lots of film.  All admission tickets must be purchased in advance by mail. (Note: This is a “model shoot”, not a workshop.
No lingerie or nudity permitted.)
